THE CHALLENGE
M2 wanted to significantly elevate the way its engineers and drivers accessed and interpreted performance data. However, the environment posed several constraints. Real-time vehicle telemetry and live timing feeds were either unavailable or unreliable, and circuit-level Wi-Fi connectivity was inconsistent at best. Despite these limitations, expectations were exceptionally high. M2’s pedigree attracts some of the most promising drivers in global motorsport, and the tools supporting them needed to match that level of professionalism and precision. Historically, session data was managed through complex spreadsheets, while onboard footage was manually reviewed, clipped, and analysed late into the night — a process that was time-intensive, error-prone, and difficult to scale across sessions. Moonward was engaged to rethink the entire workflow: to problem-solve around data constraints, define a robust technical strategy, and deliver an end-to-end software platform capable of extracting insight from limited inputs — fast.

OUR APPROACH
Moonward designed and built a fully integrated, end-to-end data analysis platform tailored specifically to M2 Competition's operational reality. The system was engineered to function without live telemetry, instead extracting maximum value from timing data and onboard footage, turning constraints into competitive leverage. At the core was a custom AI-driven PDF reader that ingested full-grid lap and sector data and structured it for deep analysis. From this foundation, the platform automatically surfaced insights including: Driver theoretical best laps, Session theoretical best laps, Gap-to-car-in-front analysis, Onboard footage auto clipping, Lap sequence breakdowns, Lap and sector time comparisons, Lap-versus-lap analysis, Tyre strategy trends across sessions, Lap time performance versus time of day, Relative driver and car rankings and Visual lap heat maps. All insights were delivered through a single, cohesive interface designed for rapid decision-making at the circuit.

project team
The Moonward team worked directly with WEC (World Endurance Championship) and TRS / CTFROT championship winning race engineers. Constantly taking on feedback, all in the name of speed and performance.

IMPACT
Within a short delivery window, Moonward shipped the complete platform in time for M2’s 2026 campaign, with the system going live in the first week of January. The software was immediately adopted by M2’s engineers, data analysts, and drivers as a core part of their race-weekend workflow. The 2026 CTFROT season proved to be one of the most competitive in recent history, with the top ten cars frequently separated by mere fractions of a second. Despite the razor-thin margins, M2 Competition finished the season in dominant fashion, securing both 1st and 2nd place in the drivers' standings and claiming the Constructors' Championship. The project reinforced Moonward's capability to deliver AI-first software solutions in high-pressure, data-dense environments where performance, accuracy, and speed of insight are critical, and where the margin for error is effectively zero.
